Churches Blend In

Obviously when neighborhoods were being set up, the place of worship was worked right into the housing district.  These are distinct buildings in different areas of the City.

Hopeful

Today on the Upper West Side, I walked past a more than block long line of hopefuls. They stood in line of about 4 abreast on average. Young, old, male, female, suited up, dressed down, Sunday best, athletic track outfits; every ethnic group was represented. They were all there, waiting to get into the Job …

Pigeons

Watch them walk. The way their heads bob with each step, you’d think they’d have headaches or rattled brains or blurred vision or at least a sore neck. However after imitating their swagger, none of the above. Try it.

More Flowers

The display in this particular flower shop is always color coordinated with same colors, various blooms.  In this shot the buildings across the street are reflected.  It’s spring in the City, in the air and in the abundance of flowers.

Believe It

Or Not.  Pants for sale in a very chic pricey shop that look like you spent the weekend upgrading the paint in your apartment. All pre-set.  This should be an April 1st entry, not Friday the 13th.

Expectations

My favorite dog in the whole world is an English Springer Spaniel. Had one in another life and consider it the dearest of dogs. So to this day, when I see an English Springer Spaniel on a walk, my heart skips a beat. Not only does it skip a beat, but I look at the …

The Deal

Everyone surely agrees:  if you don’t mind that there are only 3300 products from which to choose, and you don’t mind the no-frills display, there is no better place for grocery shopping than Trader Joes. Here in the City it is just as good as where you live. But look at these prices… 2 hothouse …

Rooftops

For three months, on the corner of 8th avenue and 46th,  I passed this display behind a cyclone fence: it was rooftops in varying heights, as if they were part of a small village. The rooftops gave the illusion that the houses were below the ground. Googling, I couldn’t find any information about them, and …

Freedom

This evening, at dusk, the  MTA bus was working its way south on 9th Avenue.  As it approached a bus stop, I saw a few feet away from the stop on the corner was a policeman. As the bus came to a stop and I took a second glance, I saw the policeman had a …

Doors in the Sidewalk

Tonight it struck me. I have not mentioned the doors in the sidewalk. The restaurant is above ground, but the kitchen and certainly the supplies are in the basement. And often as not, this basement is accessible only via these doors in the sidewalk. You walk over them daily. They look like mid-west hurricane cellar …
