Boot Scrapers

These are two examples of several along one tree-lined street in the village. Obviously when the street was unpaved, it was necessary to have a way to scrape off the mud prior to stepping into the entry hall.  They are on both sides of the stairs.

Wrong Mom

Returned to NYC only 24 hours and was out and about.  Passed a woman with an eight year old daughter, and on a leash, a lab dog.  Dog was demanding more from the mother than the child.  Mother and I shared the same hair color and black clothes.  As I passed the trio on the …

Yesterday’s News

Robins, warm weather, idles of Spring.  Gone!  Today was a rip roaring 19 degrees as I left  home to report for jury duty.  I think if I didn’t have windows that look out on the street, I would mis-clothe myself for the weather.  When in the early morning I see the dog walkers hunkered down …

Sign of Spring

At first, I only heard him, and then I saw him.  The herald of Spring

The Bicyclist!

This is a true Oregonian.  All decked out in proper biking clothes.  The helmet, gloves, jacket, tight-pants, shoes that can hold the pedals.  And his bike was no where in sight, he was just walkin’ down the street.   They are everywhere dressed like this, or some variation on this theme.   Many years ago …

The Blues Brothers

Spotted along the side of the road, in a recessed parking lot, in Sheridan Oregon.  Go figure.  It was right before the traffic sign for the turn off to Roy Rodgers Road.

The Stadium

This piece of real estate has had various names over the years, but the location has always been the same.  I think of it as Portland’s answer to Rome’s Coliseum.  The location is practically city center.  If one thinks of Broadway as being Seventh Avenue- the center street for the downtown area,  this football sized …

A 3 Syllable Word

Every time I use the directional voice on my phone, she makes ‘Portland’ into a 3 syllable word: ‘take the exit toward Por-t-land’, she instructs.

Subtle Suggestion

Oregon/Portland recycles.  The large green bin on the left is for yard debris.  The middle blue one is for plastics/paper/glass and the tinier third one is for household garbage. And they remain curbside in a lot of neighborhoods.  Not particularly adding to the ‘curb appeal’.
