The Premonition: A Pandemic Story

“Disease prevention is a public good. [however] from the point of view of the American culture the problem was, in disease prevention there was no money in it. Thus, find a way to make it pay. We are going to do privately the government business as did Blackwater. As a local health officer I was unable to get the tens of thousands of dollars for some disease stopping machine, in the private sector people would throw tens of millions at an idea. [extrapolate how the blood machine hoax came to be]

Not an easy read, you might need pen and paper to keep the story straight, However, I strongly recommend you stay with it if you really want to understand how the world ended up where we are today vis a vis the pandemic. Michael Lewis, the author, is an awesome researcher and you will likely not find a better compilation of facts and explanations. You can read it from the library, audio, or hard cover. but may I suggest read it you must.

Thule Rack

You know the excitement when you buy a new rack for your automobile. I am assuming there is some excitement. Today I purchased new saddle bags for my bicycle. Same thrill. This is no simple procedure. I had ordered a ‘set’ on line, but they proved to be smaller than I thought 30 liter was. I returned them. After three years of using the same ones I now have a new 40 liter set. Feels like I turbo’d my bike.

This after having a ‘spring check-up’* last week. Life is good

  • for the bike, not me.

Tossed Aside, tossed in!

There it lay; sewn up at the sides, top and bottom, apparently someone’s attempt to make a pillow front. Again, discarded handiwork. The image is of the most descriptive building in the City. it didn’t beg to be rescued, I was on it the minute it poked up from under all the balls of yarn. It was one-third smaller than pictured here. Chose a 10 cent frame from the nearby stack, I thought might work. Brought it all to the cashier. She looked at it, turned to her co-worker and said “Oh just give it to her'”. I was gratefully stunned. Brought it home, removed all the stitchings and all the auxiliary pieces of fabric. Ironed it. Place the frame around it. Voila!
